Insurance to Value: Homeowners Beware

September 24th, 2011 No comments

Housing values have plummeted throughout the United States.

The pace of existing-home sales dropped more than 8 percent from January 2008 to January 2009, reported the National Association of Realtors. Home values declined for 76 percent of all U.S. homes during 2008, estimated Zillow.com. And housing prices have fallen in 70 percent of all metro areas over the past several years, according to Moody’s Economy.com. What’s more, the rate of new-home construction is now at its lowest in 50 years, noted the U.S. Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development.

INSPRO Insurance also sees what’s not going down, though, is the cost of rebuilding and repairing houses. Construc

Why might the cheapest caravan insurance be a problem?

August 26th, 2011 No comments

Contrary to what you may think, this is not because the cheapest caravan insurance may offer sub-standard cover but rather:

  • looking for insurance based solely upon a search for the lowest ticket price might encourage you to overlook the fact that your requirements may be unique to you;
  • your view of what is important or even essential in caravan insurance, might not be the same as anyone else’s;
  • what this means is that what may prove to be the cheapest caravan insurance for someone else because it is suitable, may not prove to be the cheapest for you if it subsequently proves not to protect your interests;
  • this is not something that it would be advisable to discover in the event of a claim – it may be far preferable to be sure of your policy’s suitability for your purposes by looking at that in detail before you make an irrevocable commitment to purchase it;
  • sometimes the ticket price of a policy doesn’t always provide an indication of the final potential cost – for example, some policies that have what appears to be a higher price may, in fact, be obtainable for a lesser amount that their initial price if you adopt certain good practices to take advantage of their opportunities for discounts;
  • it may also be worth being fairly reserved with respect to initial price advertisements – the prices used in the headline figure may be indicative and based very much upon what might be termed a best case scenario that may not apply in your situation;
  • so, it might be worthwhile being just a little cautious about searching exclusively for the cheapest caravan insurance – perhaps a search for suitable and cost-effective caravan insurance may provide you with better results.

Queensland’s flood inquiry offers anonymity

August 25th, 2011 No comments

Queenslanders have been offered anonymity in a bid to get them to speak out about their experiences with insurers during this year’s floods, as part of the second stage of the Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry.

The commission is now preparing for its second round of hearings, which will take place in September and October, and will include examining the conduct of insurers.

“We are interested in any complaints or concerns about how insurance companies dealt with people or their claims, or conversely, any positive aspects of their dealings with their insurance companies,” a commission spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“Some people may have concerns about coming forward if their claims have not yet been settled or if their claims involve sensitive issues,” he said. “If neces

Cost of Auto Insurance in Los Angeles

July 24th, 2011 No comments

Los Angeles has thousands of cars on the highways each day, traffic jams without number, and long distances to travel to reach certain areas of the city. With all of these factors considered, it is not surprising that Los Angeles is one of the most expensive American cities in which to drive. Gas is typically higher in Los Angeles than anywhere in the nation. Surprisingly, however, the cost of car insurance is one expense in which Los Angeles is exceeded by several other American cities.

Los Angeles averages fourth in the nation for insurance rates, with an average cost of $3,225 per year. Detroit, Philadelphia, and Newark all have higher average rates.
