Womens Car Insurance & Statistics

In the last few days, a well known newspaper’s financial advisor has drawn attention to the car insurance industry and the fact that insurers are a law unto themselves. The newspaper published a letter from a reader, who actually highlighted the main problem via her own personal experience.. She had taken out a womens car insurance policy after finding a better quote than the one she had from her original provider. This was fine but the problem came when the time came for her old insurer to inform the new one that she did indeed have several no claims bonus years but she had been in an accident in the last yar, although it was not her fault and no claim was ever made.

Despite having several no claims years, declaring the bump and being found not at fault – all of which you think would indicate that she was an exemplary driver – a charge of more than £60 was addedd to the premiums she had previously been quoted for womens car insurance

You may well be sitting in front of your computer screen  with your mouth hanging open or in general disbelief and you would be right to do so. After all, if you have never claimed for an accident why should your premiums be increased? Well, it is apparently a result of statistics! You are statistically more likely to get into another accident within 12 months than you would have been had you not been involved ina bump. Why? Because apparently being not at fault in an accident means nothing. Some insurers perceive it as an indicator of poor driving habits like speeding, cutting other drivers up or generally not paying attention. As such, you have to pay more because others are reckless and hit you.

Womens car insurance is soon to be a thing of the past but this problem is not going to disappear when the policy does. Instead, it is far more likely to persist because it is not specific to that sector of the market. In fact, it is quite prevalent. In the case outlined above, the womens car insurance provider is actually a subsidiary of a major car insurance firm. It does make you wonder whether or not it is worth declaring accidents. Of course you have to by law but it is certainly worth thinking about these things when you get car insurance quotes when renewal time rolls around.
