Most people are familiar with deductibles, however, many do not realize what sections of their auto insurance policy may have them.

Why might the cheapest caravan insurance be a problem?

August 26th, 2011 No comments

Contrary to what you may think, this is not because the cheapest caravan insurance may offer sub-standard cover but rather:

  • looking for insurance based solely upon a search for the lowest ticket price might encourage you to overlook the fact that your requirements may be unique to you;
  • your view of what is important or even essential in caravan insurance, might not be the same as anyone else’s;
  • what this means is that what may prove to be the cheapest caravan insurance for someone else because it is suitable, may not prove to be the cheapest for you if it subsequently proves not to protect your interests;
  • this is not something that it would be advisable to discover in the event of a claim – it may be far preferable to be sure of your policy’s suitability for your purposes by looking at that in detail before you make an irrevocable commitment to purchase it;
  • sometimes the ticket price of a policy doesn’t always provide an indication of the final potential cost – for example, some policies that have what appears to be a higher price may, in fact, be obtainable for a lesser amount that their initial price if you adopt certain good practices to take advantage of their opportunities for discounts;
  • it may also be worth being fairly reserved with respect to initial price advertisements – the prices used in the headline figure may be indicative and based very much upon what might be termed a best case scenario that may not apply in your situation;
  • so, it might be worthwhile being just a little cautious about searching exclusively for the cheapest caravan insurance – perhaps a search for suitable and cost-effective caravan insurance may provide you with better results.

The commission is now preparing for its second round of hearings, which will take place in September and October, and will include examining the conduct of insurers.

“We are interested in any complaints or concerns about how insurance companies dealt with people or their claims, or conversely, any positive aspects of their dealings with their insurance companies,” a commission spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

“Some people may have concerns about coming forward if their claims have not yet been settled or if their claims involve sensitive issues,” he said. “If neces
