Despite Dipping Car Theft Rates, Denizens Remain Fretful

May 11th, 2012 No comments

Although the car crime rate in UK has taken a significant downturn in the past few years, citizens remain concerned about the security issues surrounding their vehicles.

According to a recent survey, about 74 percent of UK drivers fret about having their vehicles stolen. In terms of demographics, Yorkshire and East Midlands hold the highest population of worried drivers, with a solid 80 percent.

Their Scottish counterparts, on the other hand, were seen to be polar opposites in this regard.

The study, which was conducted by a premier car insurance company, was held to research the kind of terms that could be introduced to safeguard people’s vehicles, especially for those who regularly shopped around in car insurance comparison sites.

However, despite all the fears and worries surrounding car theft issues, the study revealed that only 0.16 of the company’s customers suffered from theft of vehicle in 2011. Thi

Townsend quits Chartis for Metlife

May 10th, 2012 No comments

Chartis Asia-Pacific CEO Chris Townsend is joining US financial services giant Metlife as head of its Asia region.

Mr Townsend was CEO Australia for AIG in 2008 when the group nearly collapsed and had to be rescued by the US Government. He earned kudos for his strategy to ensure the parent company’s problems did not harm local operations.

AIG’s general insurance operations were rebranded as Chartis in July 2009, and the following year Mr Townsend moved from Sydney to Singapore to take up the Asia-Pacific post.

The Metlife appointment puts him in charge of operations in Japan, Korea, Australia, Hong Kong and China – one of only three geographic operating divisions in the company.

“Chris will be an outstanding leader of our Asia region,” Metlife Chairman, President and CEO Steven Kandarian said from New York. “He is a p

Finding Hobby caravan insurance

May 6th, 2012 No comments

The situation with regard to Hobby caravan insurance is an interesting tale of evolution.

Hobby caravans and insurance

Hobby caravans are made in Germany and they managed to establish and maintain an enviable track record for quality built and precision engineered models.

Unfortunately, an entirely unwanted by-product of that reputation was the model typically also attracted thieves who were keen to own one but without going through the sordid business of actually needing to pay for it.

It was also the case that if damaged in an accident, Hobby parts may have been expensive to obtain as they were made in and imported from Germany.

The two things, taken together, meant that some insurers were reluctant to offer Hobby caravan insurance and it remained a specialist marketplace.

Inevitably, as in any situation where choice is limited, there may have been a knock-on effect on insurance prices.

Today

The good news is that today, such insurance cover is becoming more widespread and readily available.

It is now possible to obtain Hobby caravan cover from a wider variety of sources including online.

There may be some conditions of Hobby insurance that are less commonly found elsewhere though.

It may be necessary to carefully read the policy to see what these are in any given case but they may include things such as:

  • cover limited to the UK (possibly even the UK mainland);
  • a requirement to fit a tracker if one is not fitted as standard;
  • the obligatory use of additional security devices including things such as hitchlocks and wheel clamps;
  • possible restrictions on the nature of what caravanning sites may be used;
  • the need to securely store your caravan off-road when not in use over the winter (some policies may require that it is stored in a secure storage site).

So, the good news for owners is that Hobby caravan insurance is becoming a little more widely available!
